In an exclusive partnership with global video platform YouTube, South Korean label SM Entertainment has announced the “Remastering Project”, a tech-driven approach to reintroducing classic hits that laid the foundation for the K-pop.

The remastering project aims to raise the quality of more than 300 K-pop music videos and audio tracks to a format suitable for today’s digital platforms. With improved clarity and sound quality, fans can enjoy hits from veteran K-pop acts like HOT, BoA, SES and more. Considering the exponential boom of K-pop over the past decade, the partnership between K-pop creators and YouTube aims to contribute to the growth of the Korean music industry.

The partnership will further inform the global community about the history and evolution of K-pop through various campaigns, including YouTube original content and YouTube Shorts challenges. This will be the second time in the recent past that YouTube has collaborated with a major K-pop label to promote its short-form content feature. Earlier this year, BTS held their “Permission To Dance Challenge” on YouTube Shorts which saw fans post their entries from all over the world, including countries like Russia, India, South Korea, the UK United, United States and more.

SM Entertainment’s latest girl group aespa is also expected to contribute to the partnership. Reimagining legendary girl group SES’ hit single, “Dreams Come True,” the rookie monster girl group will reinterpret the existing music video, creating an all-new take on their original style and flow.

Elaborating on SM’s legacy at a press conference held earlier today, Sung Su Lee, CEO of SM Entertainment, said, “Music videos are SM’s precious assets that contain everything SM pursues and aspire. These are comprehensive contents that represent the history of K-pop and SM heritage that stands the test of time. Commenting on the partnership, Sun Lee, Head of Music Partnerships (Korea and Greater China) and Artist Relations (APAC) at YouTube, said, “I’m excited to be able to introduce more diverse Korean music content to users around the world. Through this remastering project, YouTube will continue to support and cooperate with the Korean music industry for the digitization and growth of the Korean music industry.

HOT’s “Descendants of Warriors” – the first release under the partnership – is now available on SMTOWN and the entertainment giant’s secondary YouTube channel, SM STATION. Other artists whose music videos will soon be featured as part of this partnership include SES, SHINHWA, FlyTo The Sky and BoA.
