Sunday evening, after two years in Los Angeles, the Billboard Music Awards returned to the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas where “local” soul sensation Sonic Silk was once again waiting to welcome the music industry with open arms.

While the hit comeback outfit lost nominations for Best R&B Artist and Best R&B Album (Doja Cat won these honours) as well as Top Duo/Group (BTS won that fight), Mars and .Paak won Best R&B Song for “Leave the Door Open” and serenaded the reunited stars with a rendition of “Love’s Train,” the Con Funk Shun deeply cut the band covered for a Valentine’s Day single and eventually incorporated into the setlist of his lavish Las Vegas residency shows.

The Billboard Music Awards appearance continues a string of high-profile performances from Silk Sonic throughout the project’s still-brief run, including into 2021. Grammy Awards, iHeartRadio Music Awards, WADAand Soul Train Rewards. When the Grammys came to Las Vegas in 2022 amid Silk Sonic’s ongoing residency in Sin City, the band not only opened the performance, but also went on a “clean sweep,” picking up four wins from four nominations. including Song of the Year, Record of the Year, Best R&B Song and Best R&B Performance.

Silk Sonic recently added a new crop of August dates to Dolby Live in Las Vegas. Prior to the announcement, Bruno, Pee-Wee and the gang had no dates on their calendars after May 29. Now, after a hiatus in June and July, Silk Sonic will return to Sin City for nine more shows on August 3, 5, 6, 10, 12, 13, 16, 18, and 19. The extended Las Vegas residency continues to represent the band’s only scheduled concert dates.

The superduo’s appearance at the Billboard Music Awards was accompanied by performances by Travis Scott, Burna Boy, Ed Sheeran, Becky G, Maxwell, Dan + Shay, Megan you stallion, Latte, Elle King and Miranda Lambertand Rauw Alejandro.
